My early club days, probably 2007, I rode my old hybrid bike to Forest Glen for a coffee and a group of cyclists said they were riding to Montville and back and would I like to join in. When I got back to Forest Glen, I realised I had just had my first ride with the SCBTC, a group I had never heard of prior to this day.
I soon joined the club and realised I needed a light carbon fibre road bike to keep up with this lot. I soon started leading a lot of rides especially on Sundays.
Most memorable early club rides were Landsborough to Bribie for lunch and return, Tewantin rides, I think from Nambour and return and Boreen Point rides.
A Moore to Blackbutt ride, where we organised a bus and trailer was very popular, as were the contents of the esky on the way back to my place, where we had started the day. I remember having to wait for a 4 metre long carpet snake to cross the path before we could proceed.
I enjoyed a couple of years on the committee as secretary, with John Pearson as president, Roger Watson as VP, and when Paul Glass began his epic treasurer contributions, lasting for so many years.
I've ridden in nearly 20 countries, most recently Japan with friends. And the Warwick to Crows Nest 4-day touring ride organised by Alex was a challenging adventure.
The most recent very special day in the club for me, was when so many great friends rode with me on the day of my 80th birthday, for my 80 km ride. Hope these snippets will jog a few memories for earlier members and may be of interest to some new members.
