South-Burnett Rail Trail

Ian Jope shared some of the adventures of the 30km group as they just finished riding the South-Burnett Rail Trail and a winery tour around Barambah. Garry McMahon did a great job organising the rides with Erika driving the gear from point to point. 

Monday 14th September 2026
Setup camp at Wondai Showgrounds and checked out Wondai town. Only 5 of us camping, the remainder stayed in Hotels. I hear Colonial Motel was $185 per night twin share, Unpowered site $15 per night $25 for powered at Wondai Showgrounds.

Tuesday 15th September
Wondai Showgrounds to Goomeri Cafe for lunch: 32.5km, 65km return. A couple of group members Garry McMahon and Chris Nagle did Kilkivan to Goomeri and met us there 15 minutes later. Then everyone went all way to Wondai from Goomeri. There was no need to drive back to Kilkiven as the 3rd person who dropped off Chris and Garry continued onto Goomeri in the car.

Wednesday 16th September
Wondai to Kingaroy 60km return rail trail all sealed. Today we met at Moondooner Rd/Bunya Hwy in Moondooner 4km east of Murgon to go via Redgate and Steinhardts Rd.  Great views of the Bunya Mountains and cotton fields descending into Kingaroy. We visited the Moffatdale Wineries, and Dusty Hill Winery for lunch as they open 11am. We passed Cloverly Estate Wines then rode onto Bjelke Peterson Dam a couple kilometers north then back via Murgon-Barambah Rd, Redgate Rd and Finnemores Rd back to the cars. 

Friday 18 September
Only Garry and Chris will do the Kingaroy to Yarraman link trail to the start of the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail, see https://www.trailforks.com/route/yarraman-to-kingaroy-via-nanango-rail-trail-link-route/ for the map. Its 55.4km.

Big thanks to Garry McMahon for organising this weekday ride. Its likely we might not have any 30km Saturday group for our Saturday ride as we may need time to recover!
